LOS ANGELES -- Fred Couples' smooth swing and laid-back personality have helped make him one of golf's most popular players since he broke onto the PGA Tour in 1981. Couples, who turned 50 last month and is now eligible to play the Champions Tour, was here last week to promote the Chevron World Challenge, his friend Tiger Woods' tournament at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks on Dec. 3-6.

From a hotel suite in Honolulu overlooking the golf course where Michelle Wie first showed her awesome potential, she looked at newspaper photos from various stages of her youth and realized those days were behind her.

Now that the election is over, it is time for Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey and the city council to make decisions on the Mount Ogden Golf Course/Park issue.
