BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Gilbert stuffs stats in Syracuse win over Lehi

DRAPER — Brock Gilbert continued his hot scoring pace, totaling 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Syracuse to a 66-54 win over Lehi on Friday at the Corner Canyon Tournament of Champions.

Syracuse built a 32-20 lead at halftime and held steady for the win.

Rudy Casias added nine points while Blake Soifua pitched in eight. Syracuse shot 9 of 17 from deep as a team.

MORGAN 62, EMERY 60

RICHFIELD — Morgan hit three free throws in the last nine seconds to turn a deficit into a victory in their game in the Central Utah Basketball Preview at Richfield’s Sevier Valley Center.

After a Morgan free throw tied the game, Morgan’s Tyson Hurd stole the and fed Cade Russell. Emery fouled Russell, and he converted both free throws for the final margin.

Russell led all scorers, tallying 24 points on the night for Morgan. Hurd added 11.

BOX ELDER 63, NORTHRIDGE 53

LOGAN — Box Elder outscored Northridge 17-7 in the second quarter to take control and win the first game of the Grizzly Classic at Logan High School.

Max Watson scored a game-high 29 points with four 3-pointers to lead Box Elder. Cameron Saunders added 12, also with four treys, for the Bees.

Jackson Kohl led Northridge with 14 points. Alec Duffin added 12.

SOUTH SUMMIT 56, BEN LOMOND 39

GARLAND — Ben Lomond outscored South Summit 17-14 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to counter a big deficit at the Bear River Winter Classic.

MOUNTAIN CREST 59, BONNEVILLE 45

HYRUM — Mountain Crest used an 18-9 second quarter to take control and defeat Bonneville.

Elijah Mason led Bonneville with 18 points and Hank Bushell added 14.

DAVIS 62, WESTLAKE 52

KAYSVILLE — Davis outscored Westlake 21-13 in the fourth quarter to take the game.

Josh Sanders led all scorers, pouring in 27 with two 3-pointers for Davis. Tyson Garff scored 12 points and Brendon Redford had seven points and six rebounds for the Darts.

OLYMPUS 72, LAYTON 58

HOLLADAY — Layton trailed 36-21 at the half and could not recover at Olympus.

Skyler Turner led Layton with 20 points. Chase Potter added 13 and Collin Jeppson netted 11 for the Lancers.

LONE PEAK 83, VIEWMONT 52

BOUNTIFUL — Lone Peak put Viewmont on the wrong side of a 20-6 third quarter and buried the Vikings.

Jaxon Wilding led Viewmont with 14 points and eight rebounds. Josh Mordue scored 11 points, while Spencer Mackay added six rebounds and four assists.

MANILA 90, ST, JOSEPH 52

OGDEN — Manila led 48-19 at the half in the big win at St. Joseph.

Gavin Andersen led St. Joseph with 21 points on two 3-pointers. AJ Juarez added eight points, including a pair of treys.

BEAR RIVER 71, HUNTER 53

GARLAND — Bear River outscored Hunter 37-20 in the second half for the win at its Bear River Winter Classic.

Ren Fonnesbeck led Bear River with 23 points.

BOUNTIFUL 62, PLEASANT GROVE 58

DRAPER — Bountiful trailed Pleasant Grove 20-5 early in the second quarter but used a 22-7 run to come back for the win at the Corner Canyon Tournament of Champions.

Brig Willard led Bountiful with 26 points and Camron Chism added 16 with five 3-pointers.
