GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Morgan comes back to upset Sky View

MORGAN — Trailing 33-26, Morgan outscored Skyview 20-10 in the third quarter and held on for a 60-57 win in their opening game of the Morgan Winter Classic.

Morgan Cragun led the Trojans with 19 points and nine rebounds. Kayden Jorgensen added 13 points for Morgan.

CORNER CANYON 68, SYRACUSE 28

SALT LAKE CITY — Syracuse managed only 11 points in the first half in the lopsided loss to Corner Canyon at Vivint Arena.

Rainee Schenck scored seven points to lead Syracuse, with Paityn Williams and Valerie Harker each scoring six.

RICHFIELD 47, BOX ELDER 45

ST. GEORGE — Box Elder dropped its second game at the Desert Hills Holiday Classic.

VIEWMONT 51, SPRINGVILLE 33

PLEASANT GROVE — Mercedes Staples totaled 24 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead Viewmont to a win over Springville at Pleasant Grove’s tournament.

Emma Carr added nine points and Melissa Sorenson pitched in eight.

Viewmont outscored Springville 25-12 in the second half.

FREMONT 63, WEST 45

MORGAN — Fremont outscored West 42-12 in the first half on the way to a blowout win at the Morgan Winter Classic.

Abby Broadbent led Fremont with 22 points while Berkley Larsen scored 15.

LAYTON 38, WOODS CROSS 27

LAYTON — Layton led by one going into the fourth quarter, then outscored Woods Cross 18-10 to claim the victory.

Kaitlyn Viator led Layton with 11 points. Hailey Cuppett scored nine for the Lancers, all in the fourth quarter.

Sara Noel scored 11 points to lead Woods Cross while Paige McKenna added seven.

The game became a parade to the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Layton shot 16 free throws and made 11, while Woods Cross went 5 of 7 from the line in the final frame.

MANILA 56, ST. JOSEPH 33

OGDEN — Manila outscored St. Joseph 37-14 in the first half for the road win.

Virginia Tomon led St. Joseph with 17 points and seven rebounds. Kathleen Von Hoffman added seven points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

HILLCREST 56, CLEARFIELD 43

MIDVALE — Clearfield fell behind 30-15 at the half in a loss at Hillcrest.

Haylie Anderson led Clearfield with 16 points and Kiersten Boyack added nine.
