Prep Hoops Roundup: Northridge boys blast Syracuse with 3 barrage

LAYTON — Northridge outscored Syracuse 29-13 in the second quarter to take control for a 74-56 win in Region 1 play Tuesday.

Alec Duffin led all scorers with 26 points, including five 3-pointers. Duffin scored 14 of Northridge’s 19 first-quarter points. Jovonte Wyllie netted 12 with two treys while Matt Goodrich and Jackson Kohl each scored 11 for the Knights.

Northridge netted 13 3-pointers on the night.

Brock Gilbert scored 23 points on four 3-pointers to lead Syracuse. Kingston Williams added 10 points.

WEBER 63, CLEARFIELD 57 (OT)

PLEASANT VIEW — Clearfield outscored Weber 27-16 in the second half to force overtime, but the Warriors reigned in extra time for the Region 1 win.

Kobe Furqueron had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Weber. Brandon Capener had 16 points and six rebounds while Austin Bartholomew added 11 points and six boards.

Carter Buchi led Clearfield with 17 points and four rebounds. Grayson Banks had 12 points and five rebounds while Conner Izatt and Devon Poll each scored 10 points.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 91, NORTH SUMMIT 62

LAYTON — Layton Christian led North Summit 41-20 at the half and cruised for a Region 16 home win.

Lino Saez scored a game-high 24 points to lead LCA. Sano Gasana had 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and Sam Muller added 11 points, also hitting three treys for the Eagles.

WEBER 62, CLEARFIELD 49

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber jumped out to a 17-6 lead on the way to a Region 1 win over Clearfield.

Taylor Morris led Weber with 17 points. Sydney Steadman scored 15 with three 3-pointers while Megan Smoot had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Bridget Triplett pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked six shots for the Warriors.

Haylie Anderson scored a game-high 19 points, including three treys, and Kiersten Boyack had seven rebounds for Clearfield.

NORTHRIDGE 57, SYRACUSE 34

LAYTON — Northridge led 49-24 after three quarters and held on to beat Syracuse in the Region 1 tussel.

Kendell Petersen scored a game-high 23 to lead Northridge while Brooklyn Perkins added 13 points. Jessica Petersen pulled down eight rebounds and Lydia Mashburn tallied five rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

Emily Thomas led Syracuse with eight points and Rainee Schenk added seven.

OGDEN 48, PARK CITY 19

PARK CITY — Ogden led at Park City 12-8 after one quarter, then limited the Miners to 11 points over the final three frames to claim the Region 11 road win.

Aleah Knowles equaled Park City with 19 points for the Tigers. Brynn Soelberg scored 14 and Makin Clarke added 13 points for Ogden.

DUCHESNE 57, UTAH MILITARY 22

DUCHESNE — Utah Military fell at Duchesne in the Region 16 game.

Raegan Furniss had 16 points to lead UMA, including 5 for 6 from the free-throw line.

GREEN CANYON 54, BEAR RIVER 32

GARLAND — Bear River trailed Green Canyon 12-11 after the first quarter but was outscored 35-11 over the second and third stanzas in the Region 12 loss.

Rachel Fronk scored 15 points to lead Bear River.

MORGAN 63, GRANTSVILLE 50

GRANTSVILLE — Morgan took a 27-24 lead into halftime at Grantsville, then ran away from the Cowboys in the second half for the Region 13 road win.

Morgan Cragun led the Trojans with 20 points. Jaci Jensen added 15 points with two 3-pointers. Lisa Blazzard scored 13 points and hauled in eight rebounds for Morgan.

ALTAMONT 43, ST. JOSEPH 42

ALTAMONT — St. Joseph came charging back from a 33-23 deficit after three quarters but couldn’t complete the comeback in a Region 16 loss at Altamont.

Virginia Tomon led St. Joseph with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Camryn Ingram added nine points on three 3-pointers.
