Thursday , August 21, 2014 - 1:32 PM
The ALS ice bucket challenge hasn't only been soaking local public figures — like Weber State’s head football coach Jay Hill and Athletic Director Jerry Bovee and the Utah Jazz Bear — but Hollywood as well.
Famous actors, musicians and talk show hosts have been participating in the challenge.
Donations from the ice bucket challenge has raised $41.8 million as of Thursday, Aug. 21, The ALS association announced. That is in comparison to $2.1 million raised last year from July 29 to Aug. 21. The Association has also received 739,275 new donors.
The NHL is the most familiar major league sport with ice, so it’s fitting that NHL hockey pro Paul Bissonnette took the challenge to a whole new level getting actual water from a glacier for the challenge via a helicopter.
We can’t confirm, but this has to be one of the most expensive and best produced ice bucket challenges so far — if he didn’t have a lot of free connections.
Oprah Winfrey got in on the action. Her scream after getting soaked was about the same volume as when she used to give the entire audience a new car!
Ben Affleck got adorably playful with wife Jennifer Garner during his challenge acceptance. Their kids can even be heard laughing hysterically at the end.
Even though Justin Timberlake and his backup band The Tennessee Kids weren't wearing suits and ties, it’s still pretty great to watch their reactions.
Jimmy Fallon and the Roots accepted Timberlake's nomination with Riggle.
Ashley Tisdale posted a video of her and fellow “High School Musical” star Zac Efron doing the challenge to her offical Tumblr page Tuesday afternoon.
Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer Valderrama were challenged by “That 70’s Show” co-star Topher Grace and even joked about having colder ice because it was “70’s ice.”
Accepting Steven Spielberg’s nomination, J.J. Abrams took on the challenge in memory of his grandfather, who had ALS.
Jack Black was yet another celebrity to let his kids join in and squirt him with a water gun at the end.
Hey, “Word to your motha’“ Vanilla Ice accepted in probably the most ironic celebrity acceptance of all. It’s a shame he wasn’t singing “Ice, Ice Baby” during it.
And Lady Gaga did what what we can only say is — classic Lady Gaga style.
