Maena was born on August 1, 1915 in Henefer, Summit County, Utah. She was born at 7 a.m. By 9 a.m. her father, Frank Taylor, has taken her to a church Priesthood meeting. When he was asked why he brought his new born daughter to the meeting, he replied that people said he would never be a father. He brought the proof!
She grew up in Henefer until she was eight years old when she came to Ogden. Between the ages of six and eight she attended school in Echo, Utah. The school was over the fence from a field where she and her brother watched the school play on swings.
Maena started school at Mount Fort, on 12th and Washington, in the year 1923. She even won the spelling bee when attending Mount Fort. Maena attended high school at Ogden High and graduated in May of 1933. In high school she played coronet in the school band.
She learned how to play the piano when she was ten years old and has enjoyed playing ever since.
In June of 1940, Maena met her soon to be husband, Lee. Six months later they were married at her parents' home on January 1, 1941 at midnight! They adopted a little girl named Leslie Del (now deceased).
Maena played in an organ and piano duet with her good friend, Mazone Morgan for 63 years. They traveled everywhere together from Malad, Idaho to Evanston and Lehi.
Maena is now 99 years old. She has completed a few milestones in her 98th year. She sang her first note and saw the Devils Slide up by Morgan.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her birthday on August 1, 2014 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Wasatch Care Center, 3430 Harrison Blvd. Ogden, Utah.
