Family and friends will celebrate Cecil Shaw's 90th birthday with an open house on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Plain City Senior Center, 4162 W. 2200 North, Plain City.
Cecil was born May 22, 1927, in North Ogden, to Parley A. Shaw and Lorene J. Chadwick. He was the fourth child of seven children. His father was a full-time dairy farmer and growing up, he worked very hard on the family farm.
Cecil was educated in the Weber County Public Schools and graduated from Weber High School, Class of 1945. Upon graduation, he entered the United State Navy.
On September 18, 1950, he married his best friend, Melba Johns, in the Logan LDS Temple. Over the years they enjoyed celebrating their birthdays on the same day. We always said celebrating for two made twice the fun.
Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, square dancing and traveling with family and friends.
After 30 years of service, Cecil retired from Hill Air Force Base.
They were blessed with three children: Roger (Diana) Shaw, Peggy (Richard) Despain, and Sally (Tom) Dalton. They have nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-grandson who is deceased.
Cecil and Melba were residents of North Ogden and Pleasant View for 74 years, prior to moving to Plain City in May 2001.
They were sweethearts for 63 years until her passing in August 2013.
Cecil is a member of the Plain City 7th Ward. He loves to keep busy and has found much enjoyment driving his ATV around the city and with his family on trail rides in the mountains.
Over the years, he has enjoyed working in his woodshop, building birdhouses, waterfalls, and windmills and keeping his yard beautiful with flowers. He enjoys planting a large garden each year to share with family and friends.
His life has been an example of hard work, sacrifice, and devotion to his family.
No gifts please.
We Love You!
