OGDEN -- Sandy’s Fine Foods in Ogden will serve its final customers Saturday.
Kristen Hill, the current owner and youngest daughter of Sandy and Lyle Evertsen who started the business 38 years ago, said the decision was a heartbreaking one.
“Sandy’s has been a part of so many lives over the last 38 years. We love serving Ogden and being a part of family traditions. Over Thanksgiving we hand made around 2,000 pies to be served at family parties. We take so much pride in that,” she said.
Hill said last week she met a couple who had been eating at the restaurant, located at 3233 Washington Blvd., for the last 20 years.
“We also had a family come in one night at closing. They apologized for the late hour but, they had just left the funeral of their grandmother. Sandy’s was her favorite restaurant and they wanted to eat there in remembrance of her,” she said. “We are so honored to have been a part of that.”
The restaurant is staying open one final week in December so that the owners and staff will have the opportunity to say goodbye to “all of our wonderful customers and past employees.”
Hill said the restaurant will have a book available for longtime customers to write down their favorite Sandy’s memory. They also would like people to bring in any old photos they may have of the restaurant.
The restaurant will host a “yard sale” Dec. 29 to sell off memorabilia and equipment that won’t be need anymore.
Sandy’s will continue to offer catering services from another site. The services are available at 801-399-0032. Sandy’s catering currently provides services for the conference space at The Summit Hotel (soon to be a Courtyard by Marriott) on 24th street. They are also preferred vendors at The Ben Lomond Hotel and many other reception centers around town.
