SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City officials have submitted a bid in a last-gasp effort to keep Outdoor Retailer trade shows in their city.

Reports say the bid was sent on Thursday in hopes of holding onto the shows that have been in Salt Lake City for 20 years.

The event’s owner decided not to keep the trade shows in the city because of state policies regarding Bear Ears National Monument and public-land ownership.

An assessment by Visit South Lake and the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute states Outdoor Retailer attendees spend about $1,019 each in the city.

The assessment states the event had brought in nearly $50 million to the city.
