Michael Lee Hatton was booked early Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, on a charge of murder.
OGDEN — An Ogden man accused of killing his 8-week-old daughter has pleaded guilty to murder.
Michael Lee Hatton, 26, appeared in Ogden’s 2nd District Court alongside his attorney, Randall Marshall, on Wednesday afternoon.
Hatton pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree felony murder in connection to the death of his daughter in 2016. For this charge, Hatton is facing 15 years to life in the Utah State Prison and a possible fine up to $20,000.
Prosecutors read the allegations against Hatton, which stated the child was rushed to the hospital before she died, and the infant was in Hatton’s care before her death.
Upon examination, multiple bone fractures were found throughout her body. An autopsy performed by the state medical examiner’s office determined the infant’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, and her death was listed as a homicide, according to previous Standard-Examiner reports.
Prosecutors said Wednesday the child suffered the injuries due to “extreme shaking and pulling of limbs.”
Hatton was originally given bail of $1 million after his arrest, but that was later reduced to $200,000. He is being held at Weber County Jail on bail for the same amount.
Hatton’s sentencing hearing is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 17, 2018, in Ogden.
