Fremont’s Winter twins grab top finishes at Foot Locker Cross Country regional

Fremont High twin brothers Zach and Bronson Winter both finished in the top 10 in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West regional held Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, in Walnut, California.

Zach Winter finished fourth with a time of 15:44.7, just six seconds behind regional winner Kashon Harrison of Arizona in the 5K race.

Bronson Winter finished seventh and exactly one second behind his brother at 15:45.7. Zach flipped the script on his brother from October’s state championship meet in which Bronson took the title and Zach finished third.

The top 10 finishes qualify the Winter brothers, who are both signed to run track and cross country at Weber State, to compete against runners from the other three regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Balboa Park in San Diego.

Weber High’s McKenna Lee, the reigning 6A individual cross country champion, finished 11th in the girls meet with a time of 18:40.3.

Of 243 boys racers, other area runners with their hometowns (and their finishes) were: Jacob Hansen of Bountiful (21), Carson Wilkins of Morgan (68), Addison Hedges of Huntsville (78), Kollin Murphy of Layton (115), Bryce Tolman of Ogden (146), Maxwell Bowen of Ogden (182), Joshua Leatham of Centerville (192), Blake Maples of Ogden (197), Joshua Babcock of Pleasant View (216), Mason Widdison of Ogden (220) and Hayden Stout of Layton (223).

Of 122 girls racers, other area runners with their hometowns (and finishes) were: Kalii Caldwell of Ogden (18), Carlee Hansen of Bountiful (21) and Kate Richardson of Syracuse (77).
