OGDEN — Ogden School District on Monday released the schedule of town halls to discuss possible school closures this year.
District spokesman Jer Bates said the town halls will target communities that may be affected if the district moves with school closures.
“Anybody can attend,” Bates said. “Our intent is to serve each individual community, first and foremost.”
The following town hall dates were provided by the school district and can be found on its website:
Bates said district Superintendent Rich Nye, along with other Ogden School Board members, will participate in the town halls.
The school district decided over the weekend to schedule the town hall at Taylor Canyon for Monday, March 5, Bates said. The rest of the calendar was put together Monday afternoon.
“I understand there are people who are going to say that the district is not communicating well,” Bates said. “We are going out in good faith.”
The board discussed the possible closures of at least two elementary schools during a work session Thursday, March 1. Almost every board member said they would support closing them by the end of the academic year.
Jeff Heiner, president of the board, was the only member to show reluctance to close schools as soon as May.
“There’s a part of me that I feel it’s a little bit rushed,” Heiner said during the meeting. “In my mind, it’s better to wait.”
