OGDEN – The holiday season officially begins in downtown Ogden Saturday afternoon, Nov. 28, with the Santa Run, electric light parade and official lighting of Christmas Village.

The festivities go on daily at Christmas Village with visits with Santa, Mrs. Claus, shopping and performances at the amphitheater. The village has an onsite Christmas store open from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 5 to 9 p.m. Saturdays.

Proceeds from the sale of Christmas Village sweatshirts, posters and Christmas cards will help fund new lights and displays. Train rides are also available to take riders through a tunnel with glow-in-the dark paint. The train rides are available from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturdays. The train is located on the east side of the Municipal Gardens, near the Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

On average, there are three performancesTuesday through Friday evenings at the amphitheater, according to amphitheater events coordinator Derek Williamson.

There are still a few slots open, but Williamson anticipates the calendar will be full soon. He noted the Christmas-themed performances give a nice backdrop to touring the village or just for those that enjoy listening to different kinds of Christmas music.

“We really have a lot of youth groups and school choirs but we get some others as well. People really enjoy it,” Williamson said. The performances are free and there are heated poles at the end of the aisles to keep warm.

The following is a calendar of events at Christmas Village and Ogden Amphitheater for the season.
