LAYTON — Why spend time in long lines at a big-box grocery store when you can buy fresh produce from local farmers with live music playing as you shop?
Layton F.E.S.T. kicks off the season this Friday, July 12, from 5:30 p.m. until dusk at Commons Park, located at 465 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. The weekly open-air market offers live entertainment and a unique shopping experience with a wide range of local vendors, including farmers, gardeners, food trucks, artisans and more.
Every Friday evening through Aug. 31 will offer different types of entertainment for the whole family, often in addition to live performances from local musicians. For example, an outdoor game night is planned for Aug. 10. And on Aug. 24, kids are invited to spend the evening doing arts and crafts. An event calendar detailing each night’s offerings, along with a list of performers and their bios, can be found online at LaytonFEST.com/event-calendar.html.
According to its website, the market will feature more than 60 vendors, selling everything from handmade jewelry and soaps to furniture and tupperware.
As for the farmers market portion of the event? The website says, “You can expect to find a variety of fruits, vegetables, artisan breads, honey, and other fresh produce,” although a list of vendors had not been published online as of Thursday afternoon.
If all the shopping makes you hungry, Wasatch Eats has you covered — they plan to have between eight and 12 food trucks there each night. In a recent Facebook post, the company announced Friday’s lineup, which includes Leila's Luau, The Breakfast Guys SLC, Rocky Mountain Burger Bus, Smoke A Billy BBQ & Grill, Salvadorean Pupusas and Tacos, and seven others.
