BRIGHAM CITY -- Women of Community Presbyterian Church of Brigham City will host
their annual Summer Social for all women of the community from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in Gillespie Hall, 122 East 300
South in Brigham City.
Invitations have been sent to women’s groups of local churches and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint wards.
This is a traditional summer event, begun in the early 1960s to welcome newcomers, primarily wives of new employees arriving to work at Thiokol. Some of the women hosting this occasion were newcomers when they attended those first socials.
It is also a significant year for the church, which was founded in 1877 by the Rev. Samuel L. Gillespie.
Sixty years ago, in 1954, the congregation purchased the current property and moved from its original location on north Main Street, and later built Gillespie Hall in 1964, 50 years ago.
