High demand for Ogden Temple tour tickets crashes website

OGDEN -- Interest in getting tickets to the open house of the Ogden LDS Temple starting Aug. 1 was so great Monday that the website where tickets could be reserved crashed several times.
Some reported being able to get the tickets they wanted only after an hour of trying.
Many started trying to get the tickets right at 10 a.m. when the site opened.
“Interest in the Ogden Utah Temple open house has been remarkable,” said Jessica Moody, spokesperson for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “While heavy demand caused difficulties for some individuals accessing the online reservation system this morning, the site is now running smoothly,” she said in a statement released at 1 p.m. Monday.
When the site crashed, visitors would get a message on the screen saying the site had been taken down for maintenance.
Those who visited at the time said the sophistication of the buttons where visitors needed to click was changed to more simple technology to allow for more computer space.
“With a little patience, I was able to get seven tickets on Sept 6th,” said Gary Toyn of Clearfield. “That's the last day of the open house, and the day my daughter returns from her mission. Wahoo!”
“It took awhile after many crashes, but I was finally successful,” said Sherri Condie Sillitoe of Ogden.
Some said they got to different places in the process but the system would crash before they were able to put in their e-mail addresses so they could get the tickets.
“Got mine by 10:20 but I had to stick with it,” said Kim Larson Stokes of North Ogden.
“We got our tickets as did other family members,” said Merry Ann Ames Bates, of Clearfield. “We faced a couple of glitches but it wasn't too bad!”
“I was able to get mine, but in the time it took me to confirm time with my other guests via text, the next available time was 45 minutes earlier,” said Connie Neal of Ogden. “Going fast!”
“One of my co-workers got tickets for his Young Men's group this morning,” said Brad Thurston of Hooper. “He said it took about 10 tries but he got 20.”
But despite the fact that many dates and times are taken, there still remains many tickets.
