Four Northern Utah Masonic temples will join others from throughout the state in holding public open houses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6.

Those who attend are invited to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Utah Food Bank.

Area temples are located in Ogden at 1240 20th Street, in Clearfield at 452 E. 700 South, in Brigham City at 304 S. 100 East, and in Logan at 118 West 100 North.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn about the world’s oldest and largest fraternity that has had a great influence on history,” said Austin Barron, who is the worshipful master of Unity Lodge No. 18, one of two lodges that meet in the Ogden temple. The South Ogden resident said visitors will learn what Freemasons do and why they do it.

“There are different organizations in Masonry,” he said. “There is an organization for everyone in the family.”

Barron said his favorite aspect of the Ogden temple is the blue room, where his lodge holds meetings and where new candidates join masonry.

He said other temples have different renditions of this room.

“Every temple is completely different,” he said.

He noted that the Salt Lake and Ogden temples are the bigger structures in the state.

Visitors will be allowed to tour the temples at their own pace, said a news release from the Grand Lodge of Utah. Local Masons will be on hand in every room to talk and answer questions about the building itself or about the organization.

“We love having visitors come to see this amazing building, and we’re pleased to continue with that tradition,” said Robert Wolfarth, grand master of the Grand Lodge of Utah. “We want our friends and neighbors to know this isn’t a secret organization, and that this building is a very important part of the community. We want people to understand who we are, and to feel comfortable here.”
