SOUTH OGDEN — Holy Family Catholic Church will host a reception after the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday to say goodbye to Father Patrick H. Elliott, who is retiring after 10 years of service as a pastor.

The church is at 1100 E. 5550 South in South Ogden.

Replacing Elliott as of Aug. 1 is Father William “Bill” Wheaton, according to the Intermountain Catholic newspaper.

Ordained a priest in 1992, Wheaton has served in numerous parishes in the Salt Lake diocese, but he said he calls Ogden home.

Wheaton also has served as the diocesan director of religious education and director of vocations, according to the newspaper. He was an advocate for the Tribunal, that handles cased for the church’s court system using the Code of Canon Law.  He was dean of the Southeastern and Eastern deaneries, two of the five Catholic geographical areas within the state.

“I love Ogden and I love the area,” he told Intermountain Catholic. “I have my roots there. My parents are buried there. I am looking forward to going home again. ... I have come full circle.”
