WEST HAVEN — Christian women of all faiths from throughout the area are invited to the Church Women United 2017 celebration of World Community Day.

The “Kindle New Fires for Peace” event is planned for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4050 S. 3900 West in West Haven.

“As people of faith, we have an increased ability and responsibility to reach beyond Christian denominations and get to know our neighbors,” says information promoting the event. “We must move beyond an ecumenical to a multi-faith and multi-cultural orientation.”

The speaker for the event will be Nancy Broderick, president of the board of directors for Family Promise of Ogden.

“World Community Day is an opportunity to learn about an realize the opportunities we have in our community to help other people,” said Pam Deitsch, a spokeswoman for Ogden’s Church Women United. “There are so many things and people that need help.”

Cost is a suggested $4 donation.

Participants are asked to bring a dish to share for a pot-luck lunch.

Service to be performed during the event include a collection of cans, Campbell’s and Boxtop labels and soda pop tabs.
