OGDEN — Veronica and Jose Alcocer are finally ready to set out on their own.
The couple has long worked for other Mexican restaurants, but they felt the time was right to own their own eating establishment. They plan on opening Sazon Hispano Restaurant, at 1303 Washington Blvd., in early December.
The Alcocers describe their new restaurant as a “taco buffet,” featuring various versions of the menu item. Veronica said their new business will feature traditional Mexican food, prepared fresh.
“‘Sazon’ means ‘tasty,’ or ‘flavor,’ in Spanish,” she said. “We really wanted to open this restaurant.”
Sazon Hispano Restaurant is taking over the former home of Piccollo Brothers’ Pizza and Pasta, which closed after more than 40 years of operation in Ogden. In addition to indoor seating, the property also features an outdoor patio.
The new restaurant sign is up; it features a mustachioed cactus in a sombrero with the terms “Traditional Mexican Food,” “Sazon Hispano,” and “Taco Buffet.” There are, however, remnants of the previous pizza joint, with the restaurant sign topped by an Italian chef, in an apron, twirling his mustache.
Veronica Alcocer said they’re hoping to open the restaurant next week — “probably Monday or Wednesday.”
