PREP SOFTBALL: Marziale torments Layton, Box Elder wins big; roundup

BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder put together three three-run innings and Brylee Marziale pitched a complete-game shutout as Box Elder defeated Layton 9-0 Friday.

Box Elder scored three runs in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Marziale struck out nine. She also doubled twice.

Taylor Sorenson and Maycen O’Neal also doubled for the Bees. Sorenson went 3 for 3.


PLAIN CITY — Ashlee Schriever went 3 for 4 with an RBI single and also pitched six innings as Syracuse effectively rebounded from its loss to Davis.

Kemri Curtis went 3 for 5 with an RBI single and Emery Marshall went 2 for 4 with an RBI single.

Syracuse trailed 2-1 at the end of the first inning but used a two-run third inning and a three-run fourth inning to seize control.

Fremont scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Brianna George went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Maddie Pobanz pitched three scoreless innings in relief for Fremont.


WOODS CROSS — Woods Cross exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning and crushed Mountain View.

Caitlin Barber went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Ari Ayala went 3 for 4 with a double, and Sarah Lavender went 1 for 2 with a double.

Hayden Flygare went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Jess Wall drove in a pair of runs.

Julianna Te’o allowed just one hit in five innings.
