PREP RANKINGS: Davis softball claims top spot; baseball, boys soccer rankings

NOTE: Rankings factor in results through Saturday, March 18, 2017. Only teams within the Standard-Examiner’s area of coverage are considered.


1. Davis (5-2, 1-0 Region 2)

Davis blasted Clearfield and won its Region 2 opener at Syracuse last week.

2. Box Elder (4-4, 1-0 Region 5)

Box Elder opened Region 5 play with a dominating win over East last week and soundly defeated Layton.

3. Bear River (3-2, 0-0 Region 11)

Bear River won three of five in St. George over the weekend.

4. Syracuse (3-1, 0-1 Region 2)

Syracuse lost its Region 2 opener to Davis but bounced back with a win at Fremont last week.

5. Woods Cross (2-6, 0-0 Region 5)

Woods Cross returned from Las Vegas and shut out both Northridge and Mountain View last week.


1. Fremont (4-2, 0-0 Region 1)

Fremont defeated Wasatch, Dixie and Skyridge to advance to the championship game of a St. George tournament, where it lost to Springville.

2. Davis (5-0, 0-0 Region 2)

Davis picked up wins over Northridge and Grantsville last week.

3. Clearfield (4-1, 0-0 Region 1)

Clearfield defeated Corner Canyon last week.

4. Layton (2-0, 0-0 Region 2)

Layton defeated Riverton last week.

5. Northridge (3-2, 0-0 Region 1)

Northridge won three of four games in St. George after opening its season with a loss at Davis.


1. Viewmont (3-0-1, 0-0-1 Region 2)

Viewmont won at Lone Peak but had to settle for a draw in its Region 2 opener against Layton last week.

2. Fremont (4-1, 0-0 Region 1)

Fremont defeated Layton but got clobbered by American Fork last week.

3. Weber (3-0, 0-0 Region 1)

Weber defeated Syracuse and Woods Cross.

4. Layton (1-1-2, 0-0-1 Region 2)

Layton lost to Fremont but earned a draw in its Region 2 opener against Viewmont.

5. Davis (2-2, 1-0 Region 2)

Davis lost to American Fork but started Region 2 play with a win over Granger.
