HILL AIR FORCE BASE — The Viewmont High boys golf team won each of its Region 5 meets throughout the season, and the Vikings weren’t challenged at the region championship Monday at Hubbard Golf Course.
Viewmont finished the day with a score of 301, topping second-place Bountiful by 29 strokes. The Vikings finished with 44 points for the season, 13 ahead of the second-place Braves. Woods Cross, Box Elder and Roy finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Vikings golfers Braxton Watts, Drew Smith and Ben Seely all finished in the top three Monday.
Watts tallied a score of 73, Smith finished second with a score of 75 and Seely shot a 76. Seely tied with Box Elder’s Camron Saunders.
Three more Viewmont golfers finished in the Top 10 Monday. Brandan Robison finished fifth (77), Brendan Thomas tied for seventh (79) and Britton Belnap tied for 10th (82).
Smith and Saunders tied as individual medalists for the season with an overall score of 630. Thomas placed fourth (640), Seely fifth (647), Watts sixth (651) and Robison seventh (655).
Viewmont coach Jeff Emery said the success throughout the season can be attributed to the work a number of his golfers put in throughout the summer.
“They golf. That’s what they do,” Emery said.
The 5-A state tournament will be a two-day meet on Oct. 2-3 at Talons Cove Golf Club in Saratoga Springs.
