Prep Roundup: Ben Lomond, Roy soccer win in late, stunning fashion

BOYS SOCCER

BEN LOMOND 3, BEAR RIVER 2

OGDEN — Javier Villegas scored off an Alfredo Barrandey assist in stoppage time to lift Ben Lomond (1-0) from a 1-0 halftime deficit to victory over Bear River (0-1) in Ben Lomond’s inaugural Northern Utah Spring Soccer Tournament.

Freddy Cano added a goal and an assist for Ben Lomond and Jesus Rodriguez also found the back of the net for the Scots.

Ramon Windmiller and Garrett Goring each scored for Bear River, both on headers from corner kicks off the toe of Porter Tackett.

Ben Lomond will host Roy while Bear River travels to Clearfield for the second round of tournament play Friday.

ROY 4, CLEARFIELD 3

CLEARFIELD — Roy scored three times in the last 12 minutes, capped by a Cody Moore game-winner, to turn a 3-1 deficit into victory over Clearfield in the first round of Ben Lomond’s inaugural Northern Utah Spring Soccer Tournament.

Roy (1-0) also got goals from Gunner Erickson, Gabe Campbell and Deontae Ben.

Dallin Steiner, Mike Gonzales, and Tyler Jenkins each scored for Clearfield (0-1).

Clearfield will host Bear River and Roy will play at Ben Lomond Friday in the second round.

SYRACUSE 1, BONNEVILLE 0

SYRACUSE — Josh Crew scored the lone goal in the second half of a 1-0 win for Syracuse (1-0) in its season opener against Bonneville.

DAVIS 3, VIEWMONT 1

FARMINGTON — Davis led 2-1 at the half and kept Viewmont off the scoreboard in the second half for the win.

Jeremy Sommer, Josh Harwood, and Matt Ferre each scored for Davis (2-0). Sommer tallied two assists and Harwood added one.

Preston Pitt scored for Viewmont (0-1).

WOODS CROSS 1, AMERICAN FORK 1

AMERICAN FORK — Kayson Parkin scored a second-half goal for Woods Cross (1-0-1) to forge a draw at American Fork.

MORGAN 2, CEDAR 0

ST. GEORGE — Morgan (1-0) used a Jacob Filby goal and a Cedar own-goal in the first half to win their opening game at the St. George Tournament played at Little Valley Park.

Trek Loveridge earned the clean sheet in goal for Morgan.

STANSBURY at NORTHRIDGE

Canceled and will not be rescheduled.

BASEBALL

CLEARFIELD 7, SKYLINE 1

CLEARFIELD — Bryson Hirabayashi struck out 16 batters over six innings and the Clearfield (1-0) bats came alive in a season-opening win against Skyline.

The Falcons scored all seven runs in the final three innings, including a four-run outburst in the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Jaxon Mansfield had three hits and drove in Clearfield’s first run on an RBI double.

Jake Angelico, Chandler Kotter and Ethan Giacalone all had doubles as part of a 10-hit game for the Falcons, who play at Lone Peak at 4 p.m. Friday.

STANSBURY 6, VIEWMONT 5

BOUNTIFUL — Viewmont (0-1) outhit Stansbury 8-4 but couldn’t capitalize on the extra baserunners and fell to the Stallions at home.

ROY at OGDEN

Postponed to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Roy.

SOFTBALL

YUCAIPA-CA 10, SYRACUSE 0

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — Syracuse managed only two hits in its four-inning shutout loss to Yucaipa (California) in the opening round of the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions.

Ashlee Schriver gave up 10 hits in the loss. The Titans will face Hamilton (Arizona) at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
