Prep Roundup: Marriott scores 4 goals as Bonneville soccer wins in comeback

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville boys soccer came back from an early 2-0 deficit in extraordinary fashion Wednesday.

Jayden Marriott scored four goals and the Lakers came from behind to win 5-2 over Stansbury in their Region 11 opener.

The Stallions led 2-0 after 17 minutes before Marriott converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute before halftime. Joe Crowder’s goal in the 50th minute tied the game 2-2 and Marriott put Bonneville ahead with a goal four minutes later.

Crowder’s long-distance shot in the 65th minute was saved, but Marriott pounced on the rebound for his third goal. The two combined nine minutes later on a passing move that resulted in Marriott scoring his fourth goal in front of an empty net.

OGDEN 4, TOOELE 2

OGDEN — Omar Flores scored two goals and JJ Muniz had three assists as Ogden opened its Region 11 campaign with a win over Tooele on Wednesday.

The Tigers led 2-1 at halftime. Carlos Pena and Sky Gustafson added goals for Ogden.

WEST 2, BOUNTIFUL 0

SALT LAKE CITY — West scored a goal in each half to hand Bountiful its third loss of the year.

PARK CITY 3, MORGAN 2

PARK CITY — Park City scored all three of its goals in the second half to turn around Morgan’s 1-0 halftime lead.

BASEBALL

SYRACUSE 6, SKY VIEW 3

SYRACUSE — Syracuse jumped on Sky View for four runs in the first two innings in a win Wednesday.

Rudy Casias and Zach Schofield both went 2 for 3 for the Titans. Schofield pitched four innings for Syracuse, allowing one unearned run on four hits with five strikeouts.

The Bobcats halved the Titans’ lead to 4-2 by the time the fifth inning rolled around, which is when Syracuse scored two more runs to again go ahead by four.

MORGAN 22, BEN LOMOND 4

OGDEN — Morgan scored 16 runs in the fourth inning to pull away from Ben Lomond.

The Trojans led 6-0 before the Scots scored four times in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 6-4.

Cade Peterson and Jake Rounkles each tallied four RBIs for Morgan.

OGDEN 3, JUDGE MEMORIAL 2

OGDEN — Connor Howard hit a home run and Ogden edged Judge Memorial at home on Wednesday. Max DeCorso got the win for the Tigers on the mound.

POSTPONED

Bountiful vs. Mountain Crest was called after two innings due to heavy rain with the Braves leading 2-0. The game will be continued later this season.

Logan at Clearfield has been rescheduled to 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Clearfield High.

SOFTBALL

POSTPONED

Syracuse and Herriman played two innings Wednesday before getting rained out. The game has been rescheduled for 3:30 p.m. April 13 at Herriman High.

The Davis-Copper Hills, Woods Cross-Corner Caynon and Fremont-Mountain Crest games were all rained out and have yet to be rescheduled.
