White's credibility, character make her an effective leader

Thursday , November 02, 2017 - 7:00 AM

Recently I received voter information brochures from both candidates running for Ogden City Council At-Large A. It was immediately clear to me that while one candidate is running based on her merits, the other is running a classic smear campaign – one that is based on half-truths and uninformed promises. I know both candidates and based on the credibility and character of Marcia White, I am giving her my full support.

I supported her four years ago because her goals for service were based solely on lifting Ogden. She has focused on building a vibrant city, supporting public safety and providing excellence in government. She has been able to use her business background and engineering education to bring real results. I’m impressed by her ability to listen to both sides of an issue. I watched her carefully weigh the costs and benefits of a property tax increase to support our police and firefighters so that Ogden citizens could remain safe.

As a former director of the Ogden Nature Center, I know that providing long-term protections for the wildlife sanctuary and nature education programs are not as easy as simply making an uninformed promise. Marcia understands the challenges and opportunities, and she is doing the hard work to protect the Nature Center now and in the future.

As chair of the council, Marcia has provided well-respected leadership. She understands the legislative role and firmly believes that the purpose of any ordinance is to maintain public safety, health and general welfare for all citizens in Ogden.

We don’t need the political tactics we despise so much at the national level creeping into Ogden. Please re-elect Marcia White.
