Raising chickens in the city is costly, time-consuming

Why do people want to have chickens in the city?

If it is to save money on eggs, they should do a cost analysis. I'll bet each egg costs at least $5. Eggs purchased in the stores cost about 10 to 30 cents each.

In considering the cost of any production, the work is usually the most expensive. Chickens need to be fed and given fresh water each and every day. They need to be tested and treated for any number of diseases and parasite infections.

Preventing rats and mice from getting into their feed is another problem. Salmonella is another very common problem with chickens, especially if there are meat scraps in the feed, as is quite common.

Every hour and dollar spent on the chickens needs to be considered to analyze the cost of eggs and meat produced.

If the chickens are not healthy, not only is your family in danger, so are your friends and neighbors. That can cost you a great deal.
