Police: S. Ogden man tried to kill roommate with sledgehammer

SOUTH OGDEN — A spat over money escalated, landing one man in the hospital and another in jail Tuesday.

Randy Jorgensen was booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and attempted murder.

At about 5:40 a.m., South Ogden Police responded to a residence at 5201 S. 1350 East over reports of a disturbance involving a weapon, according to a press release.

Jorgensen and his roommate reportedly got into a fight over money, which soon turned physical.

The roommate claims that 60-year-old Jorgensen broke down a door with a sledgehammer, then stabbed him with a knife in the lower leg.

The victim got away from his attacker and called police.

Jorgensen was arrested without incident and admitted to investigators that his intention was to kill his roommate.

He is being held on a bail of $25,000.
