Funeral services for LDS President Thomas Monson scheduled for Jan. 12 in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — Funeral services for the leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been scheduled for next week in Salt Lake City.

President Thomas S. Monson, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, from causes incident to age. His funeral will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in the Conference Center on Temple Square, according to a press release from the LDS Church.

A public viewing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Conference Center and will be open to all ages. 

The funeral will be open to the public, ages 8 and older. Seating is open on a first-come, first-serve basis and those who attend must be in their seats no later than 11:30 a.m., the church said. The Conference Center seats 21,000 people. 

Overflow seating with a large-screen viewing of the services will be in held in the Tabernacle, Assembly Hall and Conference Center Theater. 

For those who can’t come to Salt Lake City, the funeral will also be broadcast live on,, KSL TV, BYUtv, BYUtv Global, KBYUtv Eleven, BYUtv International, Mormon Channel, Canal Mormón and on the church satellite system.

Audio broadcasts will also air on KSL Radio and BYU Radio, the church said.

A private burial service will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following the funeral.
