HUNTSVILLE - Divers from Weber County Search and Rescue found a body in Pineview Reservoir after multiple witnesses reported to police on Saturday

A young boy told deputies that he was fishing in the Reservoir when his line had snagged and snapped. In the distance he said he saw a human body floating in the water, Sgt. Lane Findlay said.

Several beach goers on the shore also say they witnessed the body surface than disappear, Findlay said.

Deputies began searching the area of Anderson’s Cove and asked around campgrounds if anybody was missing.

There were no reported missing people in the area, however dive teams were sent into the Reservoir around 4 p.m. to investigate the claims.

After more than an hour of searching, divers recovered the remains under about 15 feet of water.

Medical examiners identified the body as a 16-year-old girl who was a runaway and known to be suicidal, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. Findlay confirmed to the Standard-Examiner the girl had been missing less than two full days at the most.

The exact cause of death and how long the body had been in the reservoir is still being investigated. Those results won’t likely be available for “the next several days at least,” Findlay said Sunday.

The girl’s name is not being released since she is a juvenile. Findlay confirmed the girl is from the Weber County area.

The Standard-Examiner will follow up on this story as more information becomes available.
