Gary Eugene Stokes of Ogden, Utah, was born on April 7, 1936, in Cleveland, Utah, son of James Alfred and Zella Alger Stokes. Gary lost his battle with life on February 14, 2017.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Utah State University. Gary was an educator and coach for 29 years with the Weber County School District, working many summers at the Utah State Grain Inspection, as well as working 10 years at Western Zirconium.
He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, served in many callings including: High Priest Group Leader and Executive Secretary.
Gary loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed watching them play sports, coaching being one of his greatest passions. He elevated many boys into respectable young men. Full of passion, he loved life deeply. Gary enjoyed returning to Emery County to hunt, camp and fish.
Gary is survived by his eternal sweetheart, Raeona. Their marriage was solemnized on December 1, 1955, in the Manti LDS Temple. Their children are: Michael (Shirley) Stokes, Scott (Ruth) Stokes, Todd (Kim) Stokes, John (Lori) Stokes, Candace (Jared) Hartmann. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Corrine and Helen; brothers, James and Donald; and granddaughter, Hailey.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond 10th Ward, 3350 N. 1050 E., North Ogden, Utah. Family will be receiving friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Ben Lomond Cemetery.
