January 2, 1949 ~ March 23, 2017
Raymond Earl Miller, 68, passed away in his sleep, Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was born January 2, 1949, in Ogden, Utah to Earl and Gladys Miller. He was the youngest of three boys.
Ray attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart and true love, Cathy Lynn Fraser, June 8, 1969, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogden. After marrying, Ray and Cathy moved to Tucson, Arizona returning five years later - missing the mountains and snow. His love of the great outdoors led them to their home in Nordic Valley. He and his family enjoyed 35 years there.
Ray had many hobbies including boating, spending time at the Pineview Yacht Club, hunting, fishing and camping. His greatest love was skiing.
Ray came from a wonderful family who shared their love and passion for skiing with the community. Growing up, Ray excelled as a successful ski racer, landing him a spot on the United States Ski Team in 1964 at age 16. After a successful racing career, he returned to the sport as an equipment representative, General Manager of Nordic Valley Ski Resort and ultimately found his true passion, coaching young athletes with the Snowbasin Ski Team and Ogden Valley Winter Sports Foundation. He impacted many lives throughout the years, young and old. One of Ray's proudest moments was the honor of being a 2002 Olympic Torch Bearer.
He was very proud of his children, Wendy and Matt, and absolutely loved being a grandfather to Gage and Mason.
Ray is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cathy; their children, Wendy (Austin) Barker and Matt Miller; grandchildren, Gage Miller and Mason Barker; brothers: Alan (Ann) and Dale Miller; and many close friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister-in law, Beth.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 31, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Nordic Valley Lodge, 3567 Nordic Valley Way, Eden Utah, 84310.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Ray Miller Memorial gofundme account or to the family directly to help with expenses. Arrangements under the direction of Leavitt's Mortuary.
