James Edward Popham, passed away March 5, 2018, surrounded by his family, incident to heart issues and old age.
He was born November 30, 1926, in Eagle Lake, Florida, to John Bernard Popham and Carrie Louise Woods.
His youth was spent in South Carolina and Georgia.
He was drafted into the Army during WWII and spent two years serving in Japan. Afterward, he moved to Salt Lake City, with his mother and sister.
He was called on an LDS Mission to South Carolina. After his mission he returned to Salt Lake City and later moved to Sunset, Utah, where he met his eternal companion, Marion Louise Martin. They were sealed September 7, 1950, in the Manti Temple.
They are the parents of nine children: LaDell (Clair) Crookston, Janet (Paul) Waite, Mary Popham, Kathleen (Michael) Cornia, Camille (John) Anderson, James Martin Popham, Wayne (Tina) Popham, Shannon (Derek) Nightingale, and Sharon (Jay) Jones.
James was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served his Heavenly Father in many callings, including 16 years in the Ogden Temple.
He attended the University of Utah and finished his degree at Weber State College. He worked at the Ogden Arsenal then moved to Hill Air Force Base where he worked on the F4 Phantom and F16 Jets. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and all seven of his older siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; nine children; 35 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday, March 8, 2018, in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Clinton LDS Ward House at 1708 West 800 North. Funeral services will be Friday, March 9, 2018, at the same location at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held prior to from 9 to 10:45 a.m. lnterment at Ogden City Cemetery at 20th street and 10th avenue.
