Vern J. Weatherston passed away at the age of 94 on Tuesday February 27, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Vern was born January 24, 1924, in Sugar City, Idaho, to Mable C. Hemsley and Heber J. Weatherston. He grew up in Plano, Idaho, until he joined the military. He served in the Army during World War II where he participated in the Battle of Normandy, and earned the Purple Heart Award.
After the war he returned to Plano, where he farmed. He moved to Ogden, Utah, where he met Geraldine Hunter. They were married March 4, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Lori and Lisa. He worked at DDO, and retired from Hill Air Force Base after 30 years.
Vern was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many positions including Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, and counselor in the Bishopric. His hobbies were farming, gardening, coin collecting, firearms, Utah Jazz basketball, and his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Lori Weatherston, Lisa (Michael) Bradshaw; and three grandchildren: Keiley, Tyson, and Hunter. His sisters, Pearl Madison, and LaJune (LaVere) Rawlins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Jerrie); his siblings: Clyde Weatherston, Kenneth Weatherston, Ray Weatherston, Evva Garrett, Joann Burch.
The family would like to thank the George E. Whalen Veterans Home, Legacy House of Ogden, Bristol Hospice, and Dr. Robert Moore.
As per his wishes, a small, family graveside service was held Friday, March 2, 2018.
A Celebration of Verns Life will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Lisa Bradshaw, 1668 Lakeview Way, Ogden, Utah 84403.
