Perhaps you heard Sue Monk Kidd is speaking at the Ogden School Foundation’s Fall Author Event.

And perhaps you just love Kidd’s best-selling novel, “The Secret Life of Bees,” but you heard tickets for her Nov. 9 appearance at the Eccles Conference Center were sold out.

Then today’s your lucky day.

Because you can still buy tickets to hear Kidd discuss her writing — and, at the same time, help the Ogden School Foundation as it enhances student access to literature, math, science, the arts and technology.

The Fall Author Event is traditionally one of the hottest tickets in town. Booklovers gleefully snap up tickets to hear authors like Ray Bradbury (1996), George Plimpton (1999), Amy Tan (2005) and David McCullough (2006), among others.

Kidd possesses the same kind of star power. When your masterpiece sells 6 million copies, is translated into 23 languages and becomes a motion picture starring Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys, it’s probably a safe bet you’re going to sell out in Ogden.

Which is what happened.

But instead of congratulating themselves on a job well done, organizers of the Fall Author Event expanded the room.

For a discounted price, you can attend social hour, then enjoy dinner in an adjacent conference room while watching Kidd’s lecture on screen. You’re also welcome to have Kidd sign your book at the end of the evening.

That’s thrilling enough. But perhaps the best part is knowing your attendance will help Ogden students and educators.

The Ogden School Foundation awarded grants to 360 district teachers in 2016 — grants to purchase classroom supplies, develop special projects and support creative initiatives.

This year’s grants exceeded $280,000, the foundation reported. They ranged from $298 at Mill Creek to nearly $24,000 at Ben Lomond High School.

All of them make teachers more effective. All of them improve the quality of education in Ogden schools.

You can help fund next year’s grants by going to hear Sue Monk Kidd at the Fall Author Event.
