Woman crossing Ogden road struck, killed

OGDEN -- A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle as she and her 8-year-old granddaughter tried to cross Harrisville Road Saturday night.

The accident occurred at about 9:04 p.m. at 164 N. Harrisville Road. According to a press release, a 48-year-old woman and her granddaughter were walking east across the road attempting to get home after visiting a store in the area. A 68-year-old male driver and his wife were travelling northbound in a midsize SUV.

“Witnesses on the scene told investigators that it appeared as if the woman and the girl were stopped in the roadway attempting to retrieve a sandal that had fallen off one of their feet,” the release said.

The driver told investigators that he did not see the two in the roadway. The woman to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The girl  was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

There were no citations issued in this case pending the outcome of the investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.

The names of the victim and driver are not being released at this time.
