Police examining if shooting near Ogden plant was accidental

OGDEN — Police are investigating outside a pet food processing plant where a caller said he accidentally shot his friend while loading his gun Saturday.

Officers were called shortly after 4:30 p.m. from near the American Nutrition plant located at 2813 Wall Avenue.

Ogden Police responded found a man with a lower extremity injury, Lt. Will Cragun told the Standard-Examiner.

Cragun said he didn't think the man's injury was life-threatening, but an officer was on his way to visit him in the hospital and confirm his condition.

Investigators were speaking with witnesses, which included plant workers, and examining the scene early Saturday evening. They are still determining whether the shooting was in fact accidental.

"That's what we're investigating right now," Cragun said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether either of the two men worked at the plant, nor if the man who fired the gun will be charged. The victim's age was not immediately released.

More details will be reported as they become available.
