FARMINGTON — An 18-year-old from Layton has been formally charged with molesting three young boys, but police say the number of alleged victims is higher.

Alexander Clifton Winward has been charged in 2nd District Court with eight counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies.

According to charging documents, Winward “engaged in inappropriate sexual contact” on multiple occasions with three boys all under the age of seven.

However, police say the number of alleged victims has grown to five children, according to Layton Police Det. Sgt. Riley Richins.

“We have five confirmed victims, and there could be as many as five more,” Richins said Thursday afternoon.

Charging documents state Winward touched the three boys’ genitals skin to skin several times between April 1 and May 25 of this year.

On one occasion, documents say Winward told one of the children the only way he could play Xbox is if the child allowed Winward to pull his pants down and touch him.

Richins said Winward and his family have been cooperative with law enforcement over the course of their investigation.

Court documents did not state how Winward had access to the victims.

Winward is being held without bail at Davis County Jail. He was booked on Sept. 6.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2.
