RIVERDALE — Police have released the identity of the man found dead in the Weber River Tuesday morning.
The body of Jason Cody, a 68-year-old Washington Terrace resident, was found in waters a “couple feet deep” and was visible from a nearby trail, Lt. Casey Warren, spokesperson for the Riverdale Police Department, said in an email.
Police were alerted to the body by a jogger and arrived on scene at about 6:45 a.m., Warren said Tuesday.
Cody appeared to be fishing in the area before he slipped or had some sort of medical issue, Warren said. Police believe that a medical issue is likely the cause of death.
Riverdale Mayor Norm Searle said Tuesday he was told the body did not appear to be the result of foul play, and it appeared to be an accidental death.
Riverdale Fire crews were sent to the scene and assisted police in extracting the body. Police cars temporarily closed the trail just south of the trailhead near Riverdale Storage just off Parker Drive. The trail was reopened at about 10:30 a.m., Warren said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not yet received a medical examiner report, Warren said in an email.
