OGDEN — A 72-year-old Ogden man is behind bars for allegedly exposing himself to a man and two young girls.

Darrell Kenneth Jones is accused of showing his genitals to two girls, ages 5 and 6, while aggressively approaching their father near the intersection of 25th Street and Madison Avenue on Friday evening.

He was charged Monday with two counts of lewdness involving a child, a third-degree felony, and one count of general lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.

Police say Jones approached the group across an empty lot, undoing the top of his pants and yelling at the girls' father, "What? Are you a nerd?"

The man yelled at Jones to leave, according to a probable cause affidavit. Jones reportedly retreated but left himself exposed.

The father dropped off his daughters at a safe place, the affidavit states, then returned a short distance to confront Jones. Jones reportedly struck the man in the hand with a broom handle. The man retreated a short distance and called Ogden police.

The responding officer reported finding Jones with his pants completely unbuttoned and holding a bag with two pornographic magazines inside. The officer later spoke with one of the girls, who reportedly confirmed her father's account.

Jones was convicted of lewdness in July 1997. He was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Tuesday in Ogden before 2nd District Judge Ernie Jones.
