LEEDS, Utah (AP) — Washington County sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting death of a 70-year-old Leeds man was in self-defense.
Witnesses told police that Stephen Aizenberg walked from his home to a neighbor’s home Thursday night and pointed a gun at the residents who had called 911.
Police say a man and several women visiting the neighbor didn’t know why he approached while armed with a gun, and the male visitor shot Aizenberg as he continued to walk toward them with his gun pointed at them.
Investigators say there’s no evidence of any previous conflict between Aizenberg and his neighbors or their visitors, and they have been unable to determine why Aizenberg confronted them with the gun.
The man who shot Aizenberg remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.
His name wasn’t released.
