PREP VOLLEYBALL: Morgan sweeps aside first two state tournament foes

OREM — Morgan rolled through Carbon and Delta in the first and second rounds of the 3-A state volleyball tournament Wednesday at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center.

Morgan will face Richfield in the semifinals Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the championship at 5:30 p.m. against either Union or North Sanpete.

Marcie Stapley, committed to Snow College, totaled 27 kills and eight blocks in the two matches, while Ellee Anderson tallied 60 assists. Anderson served four aces against Delta.

Baylee Loertscher had seven aces, six kills and five digs against Carbon, and Brooke Loertscher had five kills and two blocks against Delta.

Weber State commit Hannah Farr had 15 digs and three aces against Carbon, and United States Military Academy commit Dani Wortman had nine digs and five kills against Delta.

Morgan defeated Carbon 25-10, 25-11, 25-8 in the first round and defeated Delta 25-6, 25-15, 25-14 in the quarterfinals.

4-A Tournament

Sky View, Ridgeline, Green Canyon and Mountain Crest all advanced past the first round of the 4-A state volleyball tournament Wednesday at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center.

Mountain Crest, the fourth seed from Region 12, swept Region 10 top seed Spanish Fork (25-14, 25-22, 25-18).

Sky View, the Region 12 champion, swept Uintah despite a difficult third set. The Bobcats won 25-14, 25-15, 27-25. Second-seeded Ridgeline beat Mountain View in five sets (17-25, 25-19, 28-26, 16-25, 15-12), third-seeded Green Canyon beat Lehi in four (25-18, 25-20, 17-25, 25-23).

The Bobcats were the only Region 12 team to advance to the semifinals. Sky View swept Dixie (25-22, 25-11, 25-22) and will face Snow Canyon Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The winner will play either Desert Hills or Park City in the championship at 8 p.m.

Desert Hills beat Ridgeline in four sets in the quarterfinals. Park City swept Green Canyon and Snow Canyon defeated Mountain Crest in four. Ridgeline and Green Canyon will play each other in the single-loss semifinals Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the fifth-place game at 2 p.m., while Dixie will face Mountain Crest in the single-loss semifinals at 12:30 p.m.
