PREP VOLLEYBALL: Northridge gets past Davis in Region 1 play-in game

LAYTON — Northridge rebounded from a five-set loss to Layton to defeat Davis in four sets Tuesday in a play-in game for the 6-A state tournament.

Northridge and Davis ended Region 1 play tied for fourth place and played Tuesday to determine the region’s final playoff team.

The two teams split the first two sets before the Knights took control. Northridge won the third set 25-17 and then won the fourth 25-22.

Northridge won the first set 25-19 and Davis won the second set 25-23.

The two teams split the season series. Davis won on its home court in four sets on Sept. 6 and Northridge won in three sets at Northridge on Oct. 3.

Northridge was led by stellar hitting performances from Ashlen Bell and Alo Thompson. Bell tallied 24 kills while hitting .444, and Thompson posted 15 kills while hitting .424. Thompson also had 17 assists and nine digs.

Northridge hit .360 as a team.

Except for Hannah Stahle, Davis struggled with its attack. Stahle recorded 16 kills while hitting .359, but she was the only Darts player to hit over .150. Davis hit .106 as a team.

Lexi Todd had 28 digs and Lydia Stahle had 25 assists for the Darts.

Northridge will face Region 3 top seed Copper Hills in the first round of the state tournament at 3 p.m. Thursday. The entire tournament will be played at Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center.
