Weber State football: Stefan Cantwell named to Performer of the Year watch list

Weber State quarterback Stefan Cantwell has been named to the Midseason FCS National Performer of the Year watch list by the College Football Performance Awards.

The senior is one of 36 players on the list, which includes five players from the Big Sky Conference. The nominees consist of 29 quarterbacks, six running backs and a wide receiver.

The winner of the award will be announced Jan. 10, 2018.

Through eight games, Cantwell has led the Wildcats with 229.9 yards of total offense per game, including an average of 200.8 passing yards per game. His two interceptions are tied for the fewest thrown in the Big Sky, and he has an efficiency rating of 148.8.

Cantwell set the school record for total offense against an FBS opponent with 492 yards against Cal in the season opener.

Cantwell and No. 14 Weber State will head on the road to face No. 11 Eastern Washington at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday in a pivotal Big Sky contest.
