More pedestrian traffic incidents involving violations

Lately Hill Air Force Base has had an increase in traffic violations involving pedestrians. Some drivers are not obeying posted speed limits or being observant at cross walks, including not paying attention to or heeding warning lights provided by crosswalk traffic signals (such as the crosswalk west of Building 843). Pedestrians must also ensure their own safety, by being observant when preparing to use crosswalks. With all of this being said it's also the law.

Traffic safety checkpoints ahead

While driving on base Nov. 28, visitors, military and civilian workers can expect to encounter a Safety and Driving Under the Influence Prevention Checkpoint.

Treat everyone to safety this Halloween

Everyone needs to take extra care on Halloween -- Oct. 31 -- when excited children in costumes are out in force. Motorists need to be extra careful during trick or treat hours, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., and parents should review safety rules with their children. The 75th Security Forces Squadron members will X-ray and examine candy for all Hill trick or treaters as part of the annual Pumpkin Patrol on Halloween night. Parents or guardians can bring their child's candy to the Youth Center, Building 883 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Guarding the gates now Department of Air Force

On Sept. 30 at midnight, the contract security guards TW and Co. quietly handed over security of the gates to Hill Air Force Base to the Department of the Air Force Police and 75th Security Forces. After more than five years of protecting the base entry gates, the Air Force contract will close out as they have already done at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., and will do so across the Air Force through 2012.
