Air Force first responders, first on scene to keep missions in motion

WASHINGTON -- Air Force officials emphasized that first responders -- security forces, fire emergency services and emergency medical services -- make up the essential elements necessary to protect people and assets.

Security forces responders train in realistic scenarios involving base organizations ranging from accidents, shootings, drivers under the influence, protests and domestic assaults, to barricaded hostages, felony arrest and routine traffic stops.

Opportunities exist for active-duty Airmen to become IMA Reservists

WASHINGTON -- Air Force Reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee program officials are currently looking for Airmen from all career fields to fill worldwide taskings, according to a Reserve management group official.

Airmen who are leaving the active-duty force are encouraged to consider opportunities along the continuum of service as an IMA Reservist," said Lt. Col. Dewey DuHadway, the deputy chief of military force policy division.

The commander of the Reserve readiness management group also encourages Airmen to consider becoming an IMA.

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Air Force officials began a comprehensive review of the Distributed Common Ground System, commonly known as the Sentinel, and its periodic maintenance Feb. 22 through 26 here.

Sentinel Focus 10A is the second review for the DCGS, the Air Force's globally networked intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance weapon system.

VA officials create ad campaign to highlight education benefits

WASHINGTON -- Department of Veterans Affairs officials announced a two-month, nationwide advertising campaign Feb. 22 to assist student veterans and service members applying for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

"VA, student veterans and our schools have made significant progress in implementing the GI Bill this spring, but we still have more to do," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki.

Tricare announces H1N1 immunization policy

FALLS CHURCH, Va. -- Immunizations against the H1N1 virus will soon be available, and people are eager to take precautions. Tricare Prime, Standard and Extra beneficiaries can get their shots from network and non-network providers without paying a deductible or making a co-payment.

A temporary waiver allows retired Tricare Prime enrollees to get the H1N1 immunization from non-network providers without a referral or authorization, eliminating point-of-service charges.

Hill on F-35 operations list

WASHINGTON -- Air Force officials here announced the list of candidate locations Oct. 29 for basing the F-35 Lightning II joint strike fighter.

The list of candidate bases was approved by the secretary and chief of staff of the Air Force and identifies the first group of bases to be considered for joint strike fighter basing decisions.

WASHINGTON -- Air Force officials will implement a new organizational construct for weapon systems acquisition that includes designating directorates, divisions and branches in place of some current wings, groups and squadrons.
