The Hill Air Force Base Theater encourages spirit of volunteerism

The Base Theater, which is run strictly by volunteers, offers free movies every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and sometimes Thursdays for all of Team Hill and their families.

The Base Theater falls under and is run by the Junior Enlisted Association. This gives the JEA the opportunity to support the base theater by maintaining and continuing the free service to the base population and to support the volunteers needed to run the theater.

Bombloads of competition

The 649th Munitions Squadron hosted the first "Ammo Olympics" at Hill May 27 that featured eleven different events in which Airmen in the ammunitions career field competed against one another.

The Ammo Olympics events were all related to the career field and were open to all service members and retirees who are or were in Ammo in any military branch.

649th Munitions Squadron holds PT run in local community

The 649th Munitions Squadron held their first squadron physical training session at the Ogden River on May 26.

The last Thursday of every month is a free PT day for the squadron and the 649th MUNS plans on inviting other units to join them at different venues and the Ogden River within the local community for their 5K runs. Plans are under way to conduct weekly events after the run proved to be so scenic. Chief Master Sgt. Antonio Johnson, Maintenance Superintendent, 649th MUNS, said that a few Airmen initiated the idea of conducting the Wingman Runs in the local community.

AFAF 2010 campaign a success

The 2010 Air Force Assistance Fund campaign, which began March 8, ended April 30 and successfully raised $65,092.36.

The campaign kicked off at Hill Air Force Base with a basketball tournament between the 75th Force Support Squadron and the 75th Security Forces Squadron and was able to raise money for Airmen and military families in need.

"I appreciated not only the incredible generosity we saw through everyone's donations, but the commitment of time and effort made by the key workers in each unit," said 2nd Lt. Peter Densmore, 75th FSS Chief of Career Development.

Team Hill invites all to join Facebook fan page

Team Hill has recently joined the social media frenzy by creating a Facebook fan page and welcomes all of Team Hill, family and friends to connect with them.

The official page went live May 14 and is available at http://www.facebook.com/hill.af.mil, or search for Hill Air Force Base in the Facebook search engine.

Facebook is a popular social media site that facilitates virtual networking and communication among like-minded individuals who "friend" each other, giving Airmen multiple platforms to engage in conversations about their personal and professional interests.

75th Air Base Wing goes full force with VPP

The Airmen and civilians of the 75th Air Base Wing are accepting the responsibilities for their own safety and making their workplaces safer each day by instilling the safety minded culture of the Voluntary Protection Program.

The 75th ABW is trying to create an atmosphere where employees and management at all levels can spot safety risks and feel comfortable and empowered to bring the safety concerns to leadership so that they can be resolved in a timely manner.

530th CMMXS excels in its VPP

While the Voluntary Protection Program might be new to some organizations at Hill, the 530th Commodities Maintenance Squadron implemented VPP more than a year ago and has seen positive changes within the group concerning the safety and well-being of its employees.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rep assesses Hill progress on projects

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Dorko, Deputy Commanding General for military and international operations at the headquarters of U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, visited Team Hill on March 2.

The purpose of his visit was to meet with Team Hill project leaders and workers and to see the constructions sites that are being worked on and developed.

"Our relationship with Hill Air Force Base is really good, and this is a great opportunity for me to come out here and meet with our partners and customers," Dorko said.

AFCEA presents grant to Ogden High

Essye Miller, Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, Wasatch Chapter president and director of Hill Air Force Base Communications Directorate, awarded Kurt Jensen, Career and Technical Education faculty member at Ogden High School, the AFCEA Wasatch Chapter Educational Foundation's Science Teaching Tools Grant worth $1,000, on March 4.

Ogden High School was the recipient of the AFCEA Wasatch Chapter Educational Foundation's Science Teaching Tools Grant Program for the 2009-2010 academic school year.

Check out site for office makeover

The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron self help center is available to assist everyone here with their repairs and redesigns of office space. They offer a wide variety of tools and supplies to help accomplish all office projects.

"The self help center cuts out the middle man of having to put in the request to the facility manager, then hiring the contractors to come out and do the project," said Jeff Zitzelberger, 75th CES self help center manager.

Taking precautions during the flu season

Flu season is approaching fast this year and many are worried about the seasonal influenza and the H1N1 virus. With the help of vaccinations and simple steps taken by individuals, these viruses can be avoided.This year, individuals are encouraged to get the seasonal influenza and H1N1 virus vaccinations. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the seasonal influenza vaccine is not expected to protect against the H1N1 virus so both vaccinations are encouraged.

75th MDG welcomes new commander, changes ahead

The 75th Medical Group has welcomed a new commander here. Col. Donald C. Hickman, the 75th MDG commander, has set forth future plans for expansion making the medical group more reliable for both staff and patients while still maintaining their core values to prevent, heal, prepare and deploy.Medical renovations of the Airman Clinic and military side of Building 570 are under way to make more room and maximize space.

101 Critical Days of Summer drawing to a close with encouraging stats

Safety concerns were at an all time high during the months between Memorial Day and Labor Day at Hill Air Force Base. With an increase of outdoor and recreational activities, the 101 Critical Days of Summer campaign encourages service members to use active- risk management throughout these high-risk months. "The Air Force has experienced 13 fatalities with auto mishaps, four are associated with motorcycle mishaps," said Ron James, 75th Air Base Wing Ogden Safety Office chief of ground safety. "Hill AFB has not contributed to that number."
