Utah needs Medicaid expansion as outlined by the ACA

When people think of Medicaid, many assume it’s for unemployed people who look to the government for health care coverage. But that’s far from the case.

A chained CPI will hurt seniors

Just how large of a safety net is Social Security for Utahns 65+?  Although the average benefit is only $14,200 per year, 57 percent of this population relies on Social Security for 50 percent of their income.  Thirty-three percent of older Utahns would live in poverty without it.  Younger beneficiaries receive survivors’ benefits if a parent dies while they are still dependent on their income.  And Social Security benefits poured $4.4 billion into Utah’s economy, truly making it “too big to fail.”

Public opinion valued in utility rate increases

(UNEDITED) Several months ago, Rocky Mountain Power filed a proposal with the Utah Public Service Commission to raise rates by over $232 million in Utah, representing a 13.7% increase, the largest ever in Utah history. Many people hearing this story may have thought it was "business as usual," and that nothing could be done to stop rate increases, regardless of public reaction. Yet this is absolutely untrue; the public's voice can make a big difference.
