Profit versus service in health care

In 1962 there were no paramedics working in San Diego, California. Privately owned ambulance companies handled emergency medical calls. From traffic accidents to stabbings and shootings, as a San Diego police officer, I helped load injured people into privately owned ambulances.

We need a little backbone on the home front

The rule of law in America becomes meaningless when we lack the courage to use our system of criminal justice. We want the rest of the world to support democracy and the rule of law, but when we are consumed with fear created by terrorism and shrink from our principles like scared rabbits, we set a very poor example.
