Maintain your brain is workshop topic

ROY — A seminar called “How to Maintain Your Brain at Any Age” is being held by the University of Utah and Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter.

The free event begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 with a brain-healthy meal, followed by a presentation by Dr. Kevin Duff, a clinical neuropsychologist and associate professor of neurology at the U of U School of Medicine.

Security cameras OK’d for Farmington facility

FARMINGTON — Made aware of a potential safety issue earlier this year during Festival Days, city officials have moved to add security cameras to the city’s public works facility.

The city council voted unanimously on Tuesday to spend $10,500 to install a security system for the public works yard from 3-C Business Solutions.

Funding for the system will come from a council contingency fund, City Manager Dave Millheim said, because the system was not part of the city’s 2012-2013 fiscal year budget.

Special Olympians play nine holes with celebrities

FARMINGTON — It’s about getting a high-five from a hero.

The Utah Section of the PGA hosted its annual Special Olympics Short Game Challenge, where the size of the smile is always more important than the number on the scorecard, Monday at Oakridge Country Club.

In what has become one of most popular events leading up to the Utah Open golf championship — scheduled to begin Friday and finish Sunday — several Utah Special Olympians were paired with Utah celebrities, sportscasters and reporters, and golf professionals for a nine-hole, chipping and putting event.

Gold’s redemption story played out on TV

OGDEN — For years, Top of Utah’s Stuart Gold hoped to some day be recognized as one of the best golfers in the world.

He also had a goal to kick a substance abuse problem that haunted him for years.

In October, Gold may prove he’s accomplished both.
